Before you book a rental car

Renting a car can make a trip much easier, especially when you want more freedom, flexible timing, or access to places that are harder to reach by public transport.

Before confirming a rental, it is important to check the small details carefully. Driver age, licence rules, deposits, fuel policy, mileage limits, insurance, and cancellation terms can all change depending on the rental provider, destination, and pickup location.

Minerave helps you understand what to review before booking, so you know what to expect before you arrive at the rental desk.

What to check before booking

Driver age

Check the minimum driver age, young driver fees, maximum age rules, and whether requirements change by destination or car category.

Licence rules

Make sure your licence is accepted, check how long you must have held it, and whether an international driving permit is required.

Deposit & credit card

Review the deposit amount, accepted card type, cardholder rules, and how long the deposit may stay blocked.

Fuel policy

Check how the car should be returned, whether prepaid fuel is included, and if fees apply when the tank is not refilled.

Mileage limits

See whether mileage is unlimited, how many kilometres or miles are included, and what extra mileage may cost.

Insurance & excess

Understand what insurance is included, the excess amount, what is excluded, and whether extra protection may be needed.

Cancellation & changes

Check whether the booking can be cancelled or changed, the deadline, no-show rules, and who handles refunds.

Pickup location

Confirm the exact address, opening hours, shuttle instructions, return location, and any out-of-hours fees.

Required documents

Have your driving licence, passport or ID, booking confirmation, credit card, and international permit if required.

Before confirming your booking

Before you book, review the final price and the rental terms carefully. Make sure the booking matches your travel dates, pickup location, driver details, car category, mileage needs, insurance preference, and cancellation expectations.

A rental can look simple at first, but the important details are often inside the provider terms.

Who handles the booking?

If your rental is completed through a booking partner or external provider, that provider usually handles the reservation directly. This can include payment, confirmation, changes, cancellations, refunds, deposits, pickup rules, and rental conditions.

Minerave can help you understand what to check and where to go next, but we usually cannot access, edit, cancel, or refund bookings handled directly by external rental providers.

What to keep after booking

After confirming your rental, keep the important details saved so you can find them quickly if you need support, pickup information, or provider help.

  • Booking reference number
  • Rental provider name
  • Pickup location
  • Pickup and return dates
  • Main driver name
  • Confirmation email or voucher
  • Cancellation policy
  • Deposit and payment card requirements
  • Screenshots of important terms, if needed
